News release!
Swiss Wine Guide 2011-2012 is now out!
The essential reference for Swiss wine lovers
The fourth edition of the Swiss Wine Guide (SWG) 2011-2012 was launched in Bern Thursday 28 October during the prestigious dinner and wine awards ceremony, the Gala des Vins Suisses.
The book is published in three languages (French, German, English) and offers Swiss wine lovers the perfect tool to help them select wines and wineries. This edition has several new
features, and consumers as well as producers have been awaiting its arrival with great anticipation.
The Vinea Association, for this fourth edition of the SWG and with support from the Swiss Federal Agriculture Office, created an editorial team that developed the theme “Switzerland,
land of vines and wine”. Several chapters lay out the strong points of Switzerland’s vineyards, throughout the six main wine-producing regions: Geneva, German-speaking Switzerland, Vaud,
Valais, Ticino, and the Three Lakes Region.
The authors personally interviewed 450 of the country’s best wine producers. These portraits form an integral part of the book and are embellished with a wealth of technical, practical
and anecdotal details.
New this year: 45 cellars are highlighted by the two authors, with greater detail and their favourite wines presented.
Also new this year: “When Swiss wines join Georges Wenger’s table” was created with one of Switzerland’s most renowned chefs, Georges Wenger. The mouth-watering food and wine pairings, many
of them surprising in their originality, are the work of this Noirmont restaurant owner, and they offer tempting accompaniments to the main types of wine produced in Switzerland.
The 545-page beautifully illustrated guide, which has become the essential reference tool for Swiss wines, also serves as a hymn to the diversity and individuality of Switzerland’s vineyards
and their products.
The Swiss Wine Award (Grand Prix du Vin Suisse)
The publication of the book is a joint project between the Vinea Association, responsible for content in three languages (F, G, E) and the selection of photos. Ringier is Vinea’s partner, with
responsibility for graphic design, production and printing, and distribution.
The authors are Eva Zwahlen, wine journalist, and Emeline Zufferey, oenologist from Fully. Ellen Wallace, wine journalist and publisher, provides the English adaptation and the photos are the
work of Hans-Peter Siffert.
The SWG, with a print run of 12,000 copies, is an important communications tool for the Swiss wine industry; it provides an excellent and rich source of information for anyone who loves wine
and wants to know more about Switzerland’s wines.
Georges Wenger, on the last page of the book, sends out an appeal to all oenophiles: “This guide’s nearly-500 pages invite you to step inside the very special world of Swiss vines and wines,
of which we are extraordinarily proud. We have great faith in its future, as we work towards the same goal: absolute quality.”
